Vibram Five Fingers- barefoot shoes

Vibram Five Fingers…eh…shoes?

When I first saw a pair of the Vibram Five Fingers it immediately took me back to those five toed socks that were all the rage back in the, uh… 70’s, I think. They were wild looking and actually quite cool.

Until I tried them on and discovered I had a bit of “obstacles between the toes” phobia. Sort of like a flip flop or thong piece between all of my toes. I just couldn’t quite hang with that feeling.

And now we have a shoe (?) that provides the same type of toe individuality for those outdoor barefoot enthusiasts from the beginning fitness jogger, to the beach runner, to the adventurous, let it all hang out, rock climber.

So what do these Five Fingers do?

Simply put, they protect the bottoms of our feet all the while allowing the wearer a more natural feel with the striking surface they are coming in contact with. From hard surfaces to softer ones the Five Fingers can prevent blisters, puncture wounds, cuts, and scrapes while allowing you the barefoot freedom that comes with not wearing any shoes.

Any many people love them. What are the most common reasons people use them? Well… Read the rest of this entry »

Barefoot Running- Go Easy!

Barefoot running seems to be one of the running rages these days. And like all trends there are good points and not so good points associated with them.

For many years now running shoe manufactures have done a tremendous jog of developing and marketing cross country shoes of all makes and models to support the vast number of feet out there taking a beating on terrains of all types.barefoot running does have some benefits

And then comes along the notion that we should be implementing barefoot running into our running schedules.

Run barefoot?

That’s right!

But I just bought me a brand new pair of Asics Gel Nimbus!

Take them off. At least for a few miles.

So how is barefoot running going to help your running?

Good question and one with various answers and its fair share of contradictions.

A few benefits of barefoot running according to some of the advocates include: Read the rest of this entry »

Adidas Supernova Glide- Support With Cushion

The Adidas Supernova Glide. Now this is a shoe with great construction that heavy heal strike impact runners can really sink their feet in. I can attest that for many high arched and/or heavier runners this shoe model delivers the ability to lower heal strike impact loads as good as any shoe out there.

And many shoe reviews will support that claim.

Personally I’ve always been fond of Adidas footwear dating back to those white “Adidas Superstar” basketball shoes with the three black strips that became all the rage back in the 70’s. Those were and still are quality athletic footwear that has stood the test of time.

The same holds true for Adidas cross county shoes. And the Adidas Supernova Glide is a quality shoe at an affordable price.

So what sets them apart from others?

A few individual components and features to consider include:

  • These shoes provide cushion that you can feel when you try them on when compared to many other shoes in its class.
  • As a result of this cushion they do an excellent job dispersing forces on heal strike.
  • They are aptly suited for individuals genetically given rigid feet that do not flex well.
  • Heavier runners often find this shoe to be very comfortable for withstanding the rigors of hard pavement running.
  • These shoes provide great support for daily trail and street demands.
  • May not be the best choice for medium to severe pronators but given a medial support insert may just be your solution.
  • This is a great shoe for the on your feet all day person.

This shoe is very versatile for running rocky uneven trails or for running concrete and asphalt jungles. Individuals looking for a shoe with a softness and cushion will probably like these.

Adidas have a well established reputation for constructing cross country shoes with great comfort, support, and durability and the Supernova glide is no exception.

You can find them at most athletic shoe outlets and particularly those specializing in the running sports for around $100.00 which isn’t cheap in my opinion.  But shoe companies are constantly upgrading shoe models especially those that are gaining in popularity.

I have purchased Supernova Glides for as little as $50.00 on sale. I doubt that rate is still available but if you shop around you can get a good deal on these shoes. They are great shoes even at full price.

Your feet will thank you for them.
